Nilgiris Mountains ,India
Was in the Mountain Top Clinic in Tamil Nadu , India for nearly two weeks at the beginning of March this year. This is an Ayurvedic centre in the Nilgiris Mountains a few hours away from the city of Coimbatore. It's an area of great natural beauty with breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys below.
The Ayurvedic approach to health is not a one- size- fits- all approach so dietary advice is more attuned to one's body type and there's lots of interesting recommendations in relation to food. In the Clinic there were also individualized detox /massage treatments which aimed to promote vitality in the body. The day included a pretty wonderful yoga class each morning at 6 30 am and one could also partake in nature walks locally, cookery/Ayurvedic classes, meditation, singing, and visits to nearby markets/ towns.
Unfortunately our trip was cut short due to the unfolding Coronavirus crisis , we' d originally intended staying for four weeks . The Irish Embassy were advising visitors to India to make plans to return home on March 16th while a few days later the Indian Government announced there would be no more international flights leaving India from March 22nd. We flew out from Cochin on March 21st, by that stage Covid 19 had changed the mood in India and their lockdown would begin on March 24th.
