The range of photos is stunning, all shot with mobile phones, marvellous to see the viewpoints of the various photographers. Was delighted to have four photos included in the honourable mentions. Eventhough I like using a digital camera for photography, it's certainly great fun to have the mobile phone at hand as lots of photographic opportunities occur on a daily basis and having the phone camera nearby encourages visual creativity in the face of these ordinary moments of the day.

For instance the light can be so striking around sunset or sundown. Was out locally here on the Bull Wall, Dublin as the evening light took on such a beautiful quality. I galloped back towards Dollymount to try and frame the moment more, as a couple meandered through the sunset.

Or the sudden shift in light as the morning fog burns off on a trek with friends up Ben Nevis earlier this summer. No way I could ascend the mountain with  a digital camera along with rain gear, lunch, 2L of water etc. The phone camera is so handy in these circumstaces.

Or exploring a city for a few hours, having the phone camera to hand, can enhance the experience. Early evening in Bilbao here, looking at the city through a Calatrava footbridge, using the wide angle setting on the phone in burst mode, trying to keep the verticals reasonably straight with the aid of a pillar , when these lively lads suddenly cross over the bridge, see me lining up the camera as they cycle into view, and mouth some local pleasantries at me!

It's fun using textures in a photo also. Snapseed , Distressed FX and Image Blender apps help here and allow for greater editing creativity. Iā€™m removing and adding elements to the original photo here, just trying to re create the lean and hungry look of winter, as if we have to scrounge for light when the days are so short and low in sunshine
