Mostly Mono

Speeding into the December solstice days now, winter winding down the year into these long nights of darkness. Sometimes it's easier seeing things in monochrome , the vibrancy of colour often slipping underground during the darker wintry months.

First up are the Bar-tailed Godwits. Massing along the shore near the Bull Island, getting a last feed in before the evening roost, calling out as the full tide and sundown will shortly cover the mudflats.

Then a  stormy day on a recent trip to the Highlands, swathes of wind and rain pummelling the  A27. Pulled in to look back at the sorrowful-looking Three Sisters of Glencoe, the  light almost gone from their faces. We were glad to get out of the storm and into the hotel for my niece's wedding!

The mono mood desaturates phone images too. A hand interrupts the straight-laced patterns of a canopy in town.

Trust the recent Storm Barra then to let a little colour in! The growling of a black and blue sky over the prom and the sound of whipped-up waves beginning to crash over the sea wall. Such a backdrop for the afternoon run!
