Afterglow

It’s interesting sometimes to use a lightbox to experiment with macro photography. I like autumnal seedheads and there can be many variations on this theme, particularly if there’s a translucent element and the seedheads and petals can benefit from the back lighting of a lightbox. Converting to black and white can also allow for a further exploration of tonality and detail. In the photo below, which did well in the third round of this year’s  APOY 20,Up Close and Personal, the poppies hydrangea and honesty flowers are far removed from the heights of their blooms but nevertheless there’s an afterglow of beauty still evident in the forms and textures of the seedheads.
